I have a question regarding yeast/fungus. I hear all the time that yeast is bad for you, which I agree in general left unchecked so many problems do occur with your immune system, digestion and your skin. My question is if yeast is bad for us, why do so many supplements come from mushrooms and fermented yeast, etc...

I know that bewers yeast is an excellent source of so many nutrients-so many it is not funny.  But yet could it be bad for you? I am not sure.

Also Beta Glucan is derived from fermented yeast ( I believe) and it actually helps your immune system (I think it works like an antibiotic without any of the bad side effects)

Just need some more help understanding-thanks for your help!!!!

Great question. Your body is comprised of several different types of yeast, just as it is bacteria and cells. So consider yourself a walking ecosystem. And in an ecosystem, a certain balance must be maintained between the organisms that coexist within it. Just like our own world. Nothing that exists in nature is per se, bad; simply out of balance. A certain food chain exists in our own world that keeps things in check. But in our own food chain we have reached the top, with very little competition. Thus, humans are now overpopulated and causing a great degree of imbalance in the ecosystem we refer to as Earth.

Now how does this apply to yeast? Well many types of fungus you find in nature are very good for you, others are not. Regardless, every type of Fungus serves a purpose in the delicate balance of our ecosystem. Most mushrooms are a good source of beta glucan, arabinogalactans, Vitamin C, and a host of other nutrients/phtytonutrients. Yeasts (brewers yeast, nutritional yeast) are extremely nutrient dense. Most supplemental yeasts on the market are made from beer, a fermented product. We use a yeast from beets, which is probably your best source. The quality of the yeast depends largely upon its sourcing. Beets suck up so many nutrients and minerals from the soil that fields are usually depleted within 2 years. So to grow it, you must promote proper crop rotation. The yeast we use is rich in amino acids, protiens, B vitamins, and tons of other stuff.

Now contrary to popular belief, fungi in your own body is needed much like fungi in our environment is needed to recycle nutrients in the earth and in the air, maintaining pH balance, and competing for survival with many other microorganisms. Interestingly enough, fungi is actually one of the more evolved organisms on our planet. In fact, we share many similarities in genetic make up with our fungi friends. However, just like any other organism, imbalances can create overgrowth of that organism. The yeasts in our own body are in constant competition with bacteria. If we get too little beneficial bacteria to compete, eat too many foods that feed yeast, take antibiotics that kill off beneficial bacteria, etc. we may develop a yeast overgrowth. The most common would be Candida Albicans, a form of yeast mostly found in the intestinal tract.

Fungi thrive very quickly on sugar. A diet high in refined sugar and other carbohydrates, rich in breads and pastas, and lacking in fermented foods is much more to blame. I do not believe supplementing with Brewer's Yeast or eating mushrooms is the culprit here. True, these foods may also feed yeast, but that should be the last of your worries. Get off the sugar, breads, pastas, pasteurized dairy, and antibiotics. Incorporate more dark leafy greens, fermented foods, fiber, etc. Supplement with Oil of Oreganol in its various forms and take probiotics. We have several to choose from. If it's really bad, you can also use a yeast cleanse: Candida Freedom, CandiGone, etc. Again, we have several. Let us help you pick the one best for you. Hope this helps.
