Hi!  I have heard of people spending a few days to a week "cleansing their body" by only drinking different mixtures of things (maple, lemon, etc).  Is this good or unhealthy?  What's the best way of detoxing and cleansing my body without slowing down my metabolism in the process.  I want to cleanse (as a jumpstart), and then begin working on improving my eating habbits. Thank you for your help.  :)

There are many different cleanses for many different reasons. 1st, the cleanse you're talking about is actually very popular and can be very effective. However, I do not really reccommend it for a first time cleanse or to somebody who has not cleansed in a long time because it is powerful. As a first cleanse I recommend a gentler product called, easily enough, First Cleanse and is made by Renew Life. It is a 2 week program. Cleanse and detox can be hard on your system if done too fast or strong because of the amount of stored toxins being released. You must be able to eliminate waste and your liver and kidneys must be functioning well or many of the toxins can be reabsorbed into the body. If you are experienced with detox then the "lemonade diet" can be a great method. Make sure to have plenty of water. The tea can be prepared several ways but it needs to include either honey or possibly molasses, cayenne pepper or similar herbs, and lemon juice. These things give your body enough energy to support the fast for about 3 days. Also, be sure to properly ween off foods and then back on them as the fast ends. Your body will not be equiped to eat many foods when you break the fast so start with light greens and then fruits. Be sure to check with your physician before going on any detox or fast.
